Samuel Markham is a self-taught landscape and wilderness photographer born and raised on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
Photography entered his life in 2011, since then has developed a deep passion for capturing nature’s beauty, dramatic light, and fleeting moments of atmosphere and emotion.
His work is grounded in a deep respect and reverence for the natural world and its Creator, with a desire to reflect that sense of awe through his imagery. He is particularly drawn to dramatic light and atmosphere, constantly seeking fleeting moments that capture the essence of freedom in nature.
In 2023, he was named the Overall Winner of the Australian Geographic 2023 Nature Photographer of the Year for his image “My Country Burns”, captured during Australia’s devastating 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires.
