Image Description
This image was taken at Hanging Rock in the Blue Mountains National Park. I was standing at the top of Baltzer Lookout overlooking the rock admiring the vast view just about to start the scramble down the cliff face to get a better view of this giant rock formation, when suddenly the sun burst through a small gap on the horizon to my left igniting the top of the rock face. It was a mad dash down the steep and unstable cliff edge in search of a better view. Throwing my backpack down, as I reached for the camera out of know where an upsurging blanket of unexpected fog rose up from the Grose valley below. Both fog, sky and sandstone rock all caught fire with soft defused colour. Guessing my camera setting, I only managed to take 1 series of handheld focus stacked exposures. As I looked up from my camera the light had vanished and the fog had lifted. This fleeting moment lasted only around 20 seconds. Landscape photography for me is about pursuing the unforeseen moments that last only for a matter of moments that most people don’t get to experience. The 10km return hike to this location was definitely worth it to experience these short seconds of simplicity. I consider this to be one of my most rare images in my portfolio to date and by far the best conditions I have witnessed in 2019 so far. Humbled and forever grateful.
